One More Trial

He met a familiar hopeful
along the trail from the cold canyon.
She was lighting up her morning
with a rose-colored glow,
but a deeper shine made him breathe in,
as he gazed into her spirit, and
he knew he’d found a
woman he would love.

Well, she lost her loving husband
just a year before they met,
and though he loved her,
he just couldn’t hold her pain,
so he prayed to God and to all the universe
to help him take best care
of the mother and the
child within his keep, but

Wait! There’s still love in this fight.
Can the tears we cry wash away our fears?
“Honey, I – I didn’t mean to hurt you at all!”
And though he lost her to his worries
and they tore apart their home,
now all he wants is her forgiveness
and to offer up his own.

Well, he’s known enduring silence
as he’s waited for a sign.
Like the day he brushed
his fingers through her hair, and
with a pedestal beneath him
and the blasts of lightning striking,
he was intimate with
fury and despair, but

Wait! There’s still love in this fight.
Can the tears we cry wash away our fears?
“Honey, I – I didn’t mean to hurt you at all!”
And then he lost her to his worries,
and they tore apart their home.
Now all he wants is her forgiveness
and to offer up his own.

He’s lived so many lifetimes
in the search for love and care.
The storming on her island
gave him one more trial to bear.
